Beginners Courses/Workshops

Fencing Sessions

Warm up/Medical - All sessions

If you need to amend or change your booking to another course date we are able to do so up until 7 days prior to the start of your course.  This will incur a £10.00 administration fee, payable in advance.  If you fail to inform us within the 7 days your course can no longer be transferred and will be cancelled.  However, as a gesture of goodwill we are able to offer you a new course at a subsidised rate of £25.00 payable in advance.  All communication must be made by email to admin@fightingfitfencing.com.  No telephone conversations will be classed as a re-booking/admin confirmation.

To make a course viable we need a certain amount of participants, once you have booked your course and there is not enough participants to fulfil the criteria we will endeavor to move your course to another date as close to your original booking as possible.  We may also merge two courses of similar categories together to ensure everyone gets the best from the course.  This may include changing the times of the session.

For safety reasons, attendance of the 1st session of your chosen course is essential.  If notice of non-attendance is not given and alternative arrangements are not made as above to the commencement of the first session Fighting Fit cannot guarantee a place on an alternative course and a refund will not be given.

If any session is missed (other than the 1st), Fighting Fit will endeavor to find an alternative session at a time of your convenience, however, an alternative session is not guaranteed and is strictly subject to availability and at the discretion of Fighting Fit

Refunds are not available for missed courses or sessions

Fighting Fit coaches, tutors and staff reserve the right to exclude any participant, without any form of compensation or recompense, if it is deemed, at our sole discretion, that they are a danger to themselves or others or if they contravene any of the club or BFA codes of conduct or safety rules.

All sessions run a maximum capacity number; unless lessons are previously booked all members will be taken on a first come, first served basis.  For a 4 week beginners' course a booking MUST be made in advance.

Once you have completed your beginners' course or workshop you will be assessed by a member of staff to ensure you are able to move up into our intermediate classes if you choose to do so.  Some of you may be invited to attend our advanced programme.  The tutor will inform you of your progress during your course.  So if you would like to know more about your progression please talk to your tutor at the end of your lesson.

Please ensure you are available to attend the 4 or 6 consecutive weekly sessions in advance to ensure you do not miss out.  We do understand things crop up unexpectedly and so please do always keep in touch and let us know of any changes to your attendance so that we can help out in any way with extra tuition or extra advice if needed.

All our fencers regarding if they are a beginner or regular fencer will be given a typical warm up, to get the blood flowing and fencing muscles moving.  We expect all participants in the course to take part.  If you have any medical issues that may preclude you from this part of the activity we would like to know in advance.  Medical details completed on your registration form will be kept confidential and only the tutors and coaches will need to know your personal circumstances.  So please do let us know of anything you may think is relevant.

During the warm up we do not expect you to keep up with anyone else but do the exercises and stretches at your pace and only go as far as you feel comfortable.  It is a fun activity after all.  We just want to make sure you blood is pumping, and your fencing muscles are stretched and ready to be used.

Some medical conditions may require you to produce a medical certificate from your doctors to state they are happy with your participation.  Some of our previous beginners included those on treatment for Cancer and those with a stoma.  So if you’re game, your doctors said yes, then there is always a way.  Give us a call if you have any worries.

The group will then be coached by at least 1 head tutor.  Normally, junior coaches will also be on hand to help out and assist where needed.  This also includes individual attention if needed.  Fencing bouts against opponents will be towards the end of each session and under the direction of the lead tutor only.

Groups may be split according to ability and or age during any of our sessions.  The coach has the final decision on which group you may need to work in.  Group splits will be made according to the particular session being run and will change on a lesson by session basis.  We all learn at different rates and you pick a move or blade work skill very easy one week and find another a little more challenging.

At all our sessions we use proper Olympic metal fencing equipment NOT the plastic imitation stuff.  We only do the real thing here...  however, in certain circumstances we may use plastic foils, (weapons) because of age or for those with medical conditions or struggle to hold the metal weapon.  We are currently in the process of testing a new form of plastic fencing using the normal electric equipment and so you will not lose out on any on any fencing fun.

Classes listed on the timetable are subject to change at any time.  We will endeavor to inform all members/booked attendees in advance.  However, for all drop in sessions please refer to our Facebook & Twitter for up to date feeds on our timetable changes

For intermediate/elite sessions, the head coach and staff may change the format of the class at any time.  This may include reduced or extra footwork and bladework time.  Additional fitness work or an evening competition.  For any intermediate level fencers participation is not compulsory however this does not apply to the Elite members.

Refund/Credit notes - All purchases
